The humid air hung heavy and fragrant after a brief but powerful summer storm had drenched the forrest. The tree bark along this portion of The Long Trail was soaked and dripping. Bugs and little creatures emerged from their hidings places and resumed their business. Everything was so alive.
My dog and I, having started at the trailhead off Route 15 in Johnson, hiked over to The Lamoille River, squishing thru puddles and over wet rocks. The moisture brought out the vivid colors of every tree trunk. Moss and lichen were shown in stark contrast to the dark wet bark of various birches, pines and maple trees.
