2006 Beaumont Quilt Show

2006 Golden Triangle Quilt Guild "Golden Harvest of Quilts Show"...

My two girls and I had a great time at the recent "Golden Harvest of Quilts Show."  Both girls used Visual Quilting to develop their quilt ideas.

My 11 year-old entered the following quilt:

Carley's First Quilt - Honorable Mention

Carley's first full size quilt and her Honorable Mention Ribbon.

I am extremely proud of her efforts.  Carley kept her quilt close by when we evacuated due to Hurricane Rita and she now uses it as her comforter.

My 16 year-old entered the following pieced quilt.

Brittany's full size quilt entry and her third place ribbon.

When Brittany first told me about her intention to create a quilt over the summer, she followed up with, "Dad, can you take me to the fabric store."

I thought about the cost of fabric and said, "first I want you to put together a design."

She looked through numerous quilt block designs and selected the "confetti" block you see above.  After she drew the block in Visual Quilting and created a quilt about the size she wanted, we used the fabric yardage estimate command to determine the yards of fabric to purchase for each color.

Because the block she chose is composed of squares and rectangles the Visual Quilting yardage estimate turned out to be quite good.
